A Fun Week at the 2012 St Ambrogio Feast

(posted 8/29/12): The weather managed to provide very comfortable temperatures for the Annual Feast of Saint Ambrogio August 15-19. The Corn Boil started on Wednesday night and carried over through the Thursday night Men's Bocce league play.

The regular Fish Fry was held on Friday night leading to Grandparents Goofy Bocce the following Saturday morning. This is where twenty children aged 4-15 compete against their grandparents who must attempt to play Bocce throwing from behind their back or sitting on a chair or worse yet blindfolded! Afterward the kids are given lunch, a certificate, a medal, and a photo of each was taken to commemorate the event.

Later that night club members were treated to a Trippa Dinner - a traditional Roman dish of tripe cooked all day in a tomato-based pomodoro sauce. Entertainment was provided by "Acoustically Yours" led by guitarist Joey C.

Sunday started with Mass at Saint Anthony of Padua Church with special honors to the club members, the Ladies Auxiliary, and the Holy Name Society. Meanwhile, at the club, the Ida Calkins Bocce Tournament had begun under the capable direction of Rick Terranova. This was a double elimination tournament of 27 teams including our regular club members along with guests from the Verdi and Venetian clubs. A pasta and chicken lunch was served as the teams competed all day forming winning and losing brackets until by evening the first place team was determined. It was called "CBMC" consisting of Saint Ambrogio members (Joe Frisella, Joe Campos Jr., James Bryant, Brenan Celletti). Second place went to the "Verdi Club" (Jason McCrea, James Beasley Jr., Tim Manson, Josh Noel). Third place was won by "Venetian I" (Pete Turcato, Rich Turcato, Tom Vincent, Mike Armato). Fourth place went to "Venice Club" (Sid Pauletto, Geno Pauletto, Chad Duchce, James Beasley Sr.). There was a tie for fifth place between teams "Balls of Destiny" and "DrunkenClaus".

The final activities of the Feast were on Sunday night with the Raffle drawings and Tombola games. The Men's Raffle winners were first place Scott Fair, second John Cecchinelli, third Joe Saladino Jr., and fourth Anthony Isabelli. Women's Raffle winners were first place Maureen Taylor, and second Sharon Harradine. The Tombola winner was Alisa Laudercina.
